Abstract

The article is focused on the tradition of development of philosophical psychology in Russia at the end of the 19th- beginning of the 20th centuries (approaches suggested by G.G.Shpet and S.L.Frank are considered in the paper). The author shows that at the beginning of the 20th century, the "delineation and grounding" of the new domain of knowledge took place - of the philosophical, or metaphysical psychology. Unlike the "empiric psychology", which was engaged in research on "regularities in psychical phenomena", this new one has set as its task the study of the "general nature of psychical life". The evidence is provided that the authors considered in the paper, while constituting this new sphere of knowledge, had given the primary value to the concept of internal experience. In their opinion, this experience must form an "authentic empiric foundation" for the science about the soul.
