Abstract
For disclosure of pedagogical phenomenon of individualization of the educational process, which is carried out in Ukrainian schools after the Second World War, for the first time on the basis of archival materials and little-known manuscript sources are illuminated contribution to the 1944 - 1948 biennium. Research Institute of Defectology of the USSR Ministry of Education in the development of schools for children with special needs. Analyzed themes and scientific production institution employees (guidelines, curricula, textbooks), their impact on the deepening of differentiated approach to diagnosis and education of children with impaired mental and physical development. In view of the political and ideological characteristics of historical time considered positive signs of activities of the institution (the study of the work of special schools and methodological assistance to their teachers) and drawbacks (lack of systematic experimental studies). Using the previously unknown facts allowed to enter into scientific circulation refined information on the work of the Institute as a conductor of ideas of individualization of education.
