Abstract
The article is a continuation of lighting based on the analysis found first used archival material and unknown contribution (1944-1954 gg.) Research Institute of Defectology of the USSR in the Ministry of Education building schools for children with special needs during the second stage of the second period - 1948-1954 biennium. Attention is focused on establishing the achievements of the Institute in the context of the individualization of the educational process in different types of special schools. Analysis of themes and scientific production staff of the institution (curricula, textbooks, methodological developments), their impact on the deepening of differentiated approach to children with mental and physical development in determining the depth of defects, appropriate methods of educational work, educational content such children, by their training . It is found positive experience agency - providing the Institute during numerous trips to special schools Ukraine needed methodical and practical help to teachers and educators, most of which at the time had no special training mental retardation; study and dissemination of best teaching practices. The disadvantages of the Institute include the lack of specific fundamental study of children with special needs, experimental psychological and educational research.
