Study of self-efficiency of teachers of professional higher education institutions

Abstract

The article provides a theoretical analysis of the researches of world scientists on the self-efficacy of teachers, as a factor of personal resources, and its connection with a person's faith in his own strength and capabilities, the ability to implement his own plan of activity, with self-esteem, optimism, well-being, better resistance to stress, previous mastery experience, with motivation, purposefulness, job satisfaction, involvement, professional dedication, emotional burnout. An analysis of the empirical data of the study of the self-efficacy of teachers of vocational pre-higher education institutions was carried out, in which 290 teachers of pedagogical colleges from different regions of Ukraine participated. The "Self-Efficacy Scale of R. Schwarzer and M. Jerusalem" method was used to study the self-efficacy of teachers of vocational pre-university education institutions. Based on the results of the self-efficacy scale, three levels were determined: high, medium and low. It was determined that 27.4% of teachers have a high level of self-efficacy, and therefore they are highly motivated teachers who set high goals and try to achieve them, are confident in their ability to cope with the most difficult problems, are stress-resistant and optimistic. 72.6% of teachers have an insufficient level of self-efficacy, and therefore these teachers are prone to depression, anxiety, usually have low self-esteem, their moods are pessimistic about their achievements and personal development, full of doubts and prone to emotional burnout with subsequent deformation. According to the results of dispersion analysis, the peculiarities of the selfefficacy of the studied teachers were determined depending on their organizational and professional (work experience, position, direction of education, qualification category, supervision) and socio-demographic (gender, age of the researched, seniority, marital status) characteristics. The most self-efficacious pedagogical workers of professional higher education institutions include: 1) managers; 2) age - from 30 to 40 years, 3) work experience - from 5 to 15 years, 4) married malemanagers, 5) socio-humanitarian direction of education; 6) heads of academic groups; 7) teachers of the highest category.
