Abstract

The review article substantiates the urgency of adult education as an important resource for the civil society development in Ukraine. It is noted that civil society is an intermediary between the private sphere of people's lives and the state and unites a variety of formal and informal organizations. The author characterizes civil society as a complex socio-cultural and socio-political phenomenon. The importance of the role of adult education in overcoming social, spiritual, political, economic and other crises is emphasized. It is emphasized that adult education as a component of lifelong learning is a fundamental human right and a public weal that plays a key role in promoting educational, social, economic and environmental justice, democratic participation, civic values, overcoming inequality, etc. The importance of the role of adult civic education in promoting the target group's awareness of the mechanisms of public life, the formation of sustainable democratic values, etc. is proved. The expediency of interpreting adult education as a social subsystem with its own structure is substantiated. The main components of this subsystem are highlighted: educational institutions as socially oriented organizations, subjects of social interaction (students, teaching staff), the educational process as a type of socio-cultural activity, the effectiveness of which is ensured by an optimal educational environment. It is emphasized that adult education is connected with all spheres of public life, and this connection is realized directly through the individual involved in economic, political, spiritual and other social relations. The conclusion is made that adult education and lifelong learning are integral components of social life and important indicators of the effectiveness of society.
