Abstract

The monograph is devoted to the psychological analysis of the problem of collective trauma, primarily in such fields as social, political, and historical psychology. The book presents the principles of assessing the gravity of collective trauma, the patterns of their genesis and intergenerational transmission, the peculiarities of the group's defensive behavior in response to collective trauma, means of overcoming traumatic experience and healing from its consequences. An analysis of totalitarian political ideologies and practices, aggressive intergroup interaction, information-propaganda aggression, and other factors causing collective traumas and their cyclic recurrence in history is given. From the point of view of collective traumas, the problem of health and unhealthiness of society and the possibilities of its recovery are considered. Special attention is paid to the historical and contemporary collective traumas of Ukraine (in particular, the trauma of the Russia-Ukraine war), their course, interrelationship, and prospects for overcoming them. For psychologists, psychotherapists, sociologists, political scientists, historians, teachers, graduate students and students of relevant specialties, public and political figures, as well as for everyone who is interested in the issue of collective trauma.
