Abstract

The article presents the results of a psychosemantic research of national identification and vision of the future of school and student youth in different regions of Ukraine. National identification is considered as awareness of belonging to a political nation – a community that has its own experience of statehood, traditions, myths and symbols, common values and expectations for the future. According to the results of the study, it was established that the youth of all regions believe in a happy future for Ukraine, rely mainly on themselves to create their own future and see prospects for building it in their own country. In addition, they feel responsible for preserving the territorial integrity of the state. Almost all respondents are proud of belonging to the Ukrainian nation. The image of Ukraine and the Ukrainian is quite strongly mythologized in connection with the war. There are some unrealistic expectations of a happy and cloudless post-war future, which can be an element of self-support as a certain psychological resource. Statistically significant differences were established between the youth of different regions of Ukraine in terms of independence in choosing a future profession, attitudes towards education (desire to study abroad, the need for the Russian language in education), readiness for territorial concessions, reliance only on oneself in creating the future, and ideas about consolidating factors of the Ukrainian nation. Five factors describing the peculiarities of national identity and ideas about the future of pupils and student youth were identified: "Common values and the future of Ukraine and its citizens", "Readiness to make concessions", "Readiness to go abroad", "Paternalism regarding foreign aid ” and “Dependence on the social environment”. The first factor describes hopes for the future and factors of Ukrainian unity, as well as hopes for a decent life in their native country. Instead, the other four factors describe the risks and threats to youth national identification.
