Abstract

The article actualizes the problem of formation of natural and scientific literacy in students of general secondary education of Ukraine by means of Physics as an educational subject. It is emphasized the need to increase attention in the educational process in Physics to the use of tasks in the development of natural and scientific literacy in the format of comparative studies. Emphasis is placed on the role of a modern Physics textbook in preparing students for international comparative studies to identify the level of natural and scientific literacy. The peculiarities of the methodical apparatus, the construction of a system of exercises and tasks of a modern Physics textbook for general secondary education institutions were analysed and its potential for the formation and development of students’ key competencies in the field of natural sciences, engineering and technology as the leading task of the physical component of the natural educational field was determined. The expediency of the systematic implementation of contextual tasks in Physics textbooks, which ensure the formation of students’ competencies to explain phenomena from the standpoint of natural sciences, evaluate the results of scientific research and develop scientific tasks, carry out scientific interpretation of data as components of natural and scientific literacy, is determined. The experience of educational practice regarding the use of the Physics textbook as a core component of the methodical system of competence-oriented learning, the formation of students’ ability to solve contextual problems as an important condition for mastering natural and scientific literacy is summarized.
