Abstract

The article highlights the biography and scientific achievements of Oleksandr Buhaiov – a well-known scientist in the field of physics and astronomy teaching methods, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Honorary Academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, the founder of a scientific and methodological school known for its results both in Ukraine and abroad. The role of the scientist in the development of modern physics didactics and educational practice, the importance of his fundamental scientific works for the development of school physics and astronomy education in Ukraine, the establishment of the educational paradigm of competence-based learning, the development of innovative content of physics education in general secondary education institutions and its educational and methodological support, the formation of a national physics textbook are substantiated. The article emphasizes the active civic position of O. Buhaiov, his many years of creative and mentoring activity as the founder of the scientific school of physics teaching methods, his role in training a number of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical personnel for higher schools and scientific institutions in Ukraine and abroad.
