Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyse the terminological area of the scientific problem of equity in education. The study is theoretical. The key methods are analysis, comparison, and synthesis. The study reveals that the concept of equity is understood as equality of opportunity, provides for equal access to educational programmes regardless of the life circumstances of students, and equal treatment of all students regardless of their social status. It is concluded that the EU considers equity to be a key condition that the education system should provide for the development of talents and the realisation of the potential of the individual, regardless of social background. In the European education area, equity is defined as the degree to which individuals can benefit from the education system in terms of opportunities, access, attitudes and outcomes. Equitable education systems ensure that educational outcomes do not depend on socio-economic background and other factors that create an unfavourable educational environment
