Abstract

The chapter of the book is dedicated to philosophical consideration of non-state higher education, the history of the becoming of its cultural traditions, including those in Ukraine. The perspectives of its further development are being reviewed, those related to the inability of a state that is oriented on linear approach of the Modernity and administrative methods of standardization to provide for the functioning of universities as environments to foster critical thinking and general culture of the students, which would enable them to act under the conditions of complexity and unpredictability of the globalized world. Non-state universities, being more versatile and not subject to extreme bureaucratization, are argued to appear as able to realize the humanistic, human-commensurable approach in education.
