Abstract

The modern situation with the development of reading competence of younger schoolchildren is revealed, the reasons that led to a significant decrease in the qualitative characteristics of students' reading activity are indicated. Quantitative and qualitative negative indicators of various aspects of reading competence are substantiated. Important goals and measures to improve the situation with students' reading are outlined, reflected in the Strategy for the Development of Reading for the Period Until 2032, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
