Abstract

The article maintains the importance of the high school students’ preparation to responsible parenting in modern social situation that is characterized by weakening the bonds between parents and children, decline of the family upbringing quality and increasing intra-family conflict. The aim of the article is the definition of the principles, content and methods of the formation of the high school students’ readiness to responsible parenting. The principles of the high school students’ preparation to responsible parenting are defined: positioning of parenting emotional attraction, forming the hierarchy of parenting values, positive parenting expectations’ stimulation, promotion of the basis of family psychology and reproductive culture acquisition, affirmation of the gender equality. The content of the high school students’ preparation to responsible parenting that has to disclose the legal platform of parenting, demands to reproductive health of the future parents, the basis of family pedagogy and psychology is characterized. The introduction of the elective course “The high school students” preparation to responsible parenting (“Me as the future father (mother)” into the educational process of the secondary school is suggested. The approximate topics are: “Family and parenting role in personality formation”, “Harmonious family relationships as the factor of responsible parenting formation”, “Parents’ reproductive culture”, “The basis of the family upbringing”, “The family upbringing of a toddler (till 3-years old)”, “The family upbringing of a preschool child 4–6 years old)” etc. The methods of the high school students’ preparation to responsible parenting are defined: the concrete situations analysis method, problem education, discussion, conversation, project making, training, business game etc. The importance of raising the pedagogical competence of educators and entering the close cooperation between the educators and parents in the process of the high school students’ preparation to responsible parenting is accentuated.
