Abstract
Various aspects of the transformation of students' reading activity in the conditions of the modern social situation of social development are analyzed. The essence of the concept of "socialization of personality" is revealed. The necessity of rethinking the functional role and tasks of children's reading in the information society is grounded: theoretical substantiation of screen reading issues, search for new educational technologies for meaningful reading, increasing attention to a more careful selection of the content of children's works for lessons in social reading development, reading interests of students, enrichment of background knowledge, familiarization of children with different behaviors, better adaptation to the environment the surrounding social environment.
