Abstract

The article analyses theoretical and practical peculiarities of the optional component of profile learning of biology. The conclusion is made about the need to review the current curriculum of the optional courses in connection with the reform of Ukrainian education. The results of the analysis of the curricula of current elective courses published in 2009 are presented. The importance of profile learning of biology for the graduate’s professional self-determination is revealed. Methodological possibilities of realization of profile biological education in the context of competence approach are substantiated. They are presented in the structural elements of the curriculum of the elective course “ Human’s health and life safety. Grades 10-11”: education applicants’ expected learning outcomes, subject content, competence-oriented content lines. The example of the structure of the curriculum of the elective course “ Human’s health and life safety. Grades 10-11” is given.
