Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the practice of organizing research activities in the process of teaching history in the institutions of general secondary education. In order to determine the actual status of the use of a research approach in teaching history, the authors of the article conducted a survey for teachers, deep interviews and talks with them. The analysis of the responses of the teachers gave reason to the authors to assert that the overwhelming majority of teachers understand the relevance of the organization of research activities in the process of teaching history in primary school and sees its potential in the development of such qualities of a pupil as cognitive activity, autonomy, critical thinking, ability to creatively perform the tasks. However, according to the results of the survey, some teachers simplistically understand the essence of the research activities of pupils and do not pay enough attention to it in the process of teaching history. The results of the survey allowed the authors to highlight the main factors that complicate the implementation of research activities in the process of teaching history: the lack of a well-structured methodology for organizing research activities, the overload of curricula and textbooks, little teaching time, the high degree of fullness of classes, low motivation of pupils. According to the authors, in order to solve the problems identified, it is necessary to develop and implement in the educational process a special methodology for the integrated development of research abilities of pupils of secondary school on the basis of the theoretical principles available in the psychological-pedagogical and methodological sciences concerning the educational and research activity. The article outlines the prospects for further research related to the development, testing and implementation of curricula and school textbooks in the educational process on the basis of a research approach.
