Abstract

Dissertation for Candidate Degree in Psychological Sciences in speciality 19.00.05 – Social Psychology; Psychology of Social Work. – Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2012. The thesis is dedicated to the study of psychological mechanisms of the social identity transformation on the condition of rural youth migration to city. The essence of social identity transformation is clarified. The methodological tools for study the social identity and its transformations are grounded. The peculiarities of social identity and its transformation of rural youth who moved to city are defined. Psychological mechanisms of social identity transformation of rural youth in an urban community are: idealization of in-group, deidealization of in-group, deidentification of group, active involving, idealization of the Self, deidealization of the Self, confrontation and conformism. The peculiarities of these mechanisms functioning in different social and demographic groups of youth are highlighted and the main stages of this process are substantiated. By the experimental way the sensibility of social identity to discovered mechanisms acting is proved and the components of social identity which transformed by these mechanisms functioning are found out.
