Abstract
The article presents the results of an empirical study, in which entrepreneurs evaluated the conditions of doing business in Ukraine as well as positive and negative factors impacting business. It has been discovered that the owners of large and medium-sized enterprises have reported some improvement in the business environment in comparison with the two previous years. Entrepreneurs with annual sales of more than 150 thousand hryvna have evaluated business conditions as satisfactory on the whole. According to entrepreneurs with 5-8 years of experience in business, the conditions of doing business in the country are unsatisfactory. Taking into account obtained results, the entrepreneurs’ evaluation of business conditions is defined by three factors: economic status of entrepreneurs, the annual volume of sales and their experience in business. Special aspects of evaluation of positive and negative factors’ impact on the business have been identified in the process of comparing direct evaluations of entrepreneurs and the results of the secondary data. In the first phase the analysis of the mean values of direct evaluations of 20 signs was conducted, and then the factor analysis was applied. Among the 8 positive and 9 negative factors impacting business, 5 factors that are similar in terms of content were identified. These factors are: formalized relationship “the state – entrepreneurs”, informal relationship “the state – entrepreneurs”, legislation, property protection and resources availability. Depending on situation, these 5 factors can be of a positive or negative character. Based on data comparison, ambivalent position of entrepreneurs towards the direct and latent evaluations was identified. For example, direct evaluations of the positive impact on business reflected entrepreneur’s own influence and his employees. Factor analysis showed that most often the entrepreneur has negative influence over his business development, and his employees often serve as operating personnel maintaining the means of production.
