Abstract

The article examines the urbanistic discourse in history textbooks of the New Ukrainian School (9th grade) using the example of educational publications by the author team led by O. Pometun. Approaches to presenting the past of Ukrainian cities from the late 18th to the early 20th centuries through the prism of economic, political, socio-cultural, and nation-building processes, as well as multi-ethnicity, the environment, and the gender aspect, are analyzed. Indicative areas of students' competency-based activities within interdisciplinary studies of the urban environment are determined.
