Abstract

The presentation explores ways of actualizing Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi’s pedagogical heritage in contemporary professional education, drawing on the activities of the Museum of Education of Ukraine. It examines the distinction between preserving pedagogical heritage and enabling it to function as a resource for contemporary professional thinking. The presentation introduces a four-stage approach to working with museum objects: “to show — to hear — to understand — to ask”. This approach involves engaging with primary sources, using accessible communication channels, exploring the historical context of pedagogical publications, and formulating original questions about pedagogical heritage. Examples include the virtual exhibition “The Creative Legacy of V. Sukhomlynskyi in the Collections of the Museum of Education of Ukraine”, the project “Sukhomlynskyi Among the Stars”, and video materials about editions of the educator’s works. These examples illustrate museum-based interpretation and the actualization of historical and pedagogical sources. Particular attention is paid to the potential of museum objects in professional education to develop educators’ critical and research thinking, encourage reflection on the historical context of pedagogical ideas, and relate them to contemporary educational practice. The presentation emphasizes that pedagogical heritage remains living when it becomes a source of independent questions, professional reflection, and new interpretations of pedagogical experience.
