Abstract

The paper examines the topical issue of developing national-cultural competence among future humanities teachers amid globalization, the digitalization of education, and sociocultural transformations. National-cultural competence is defined as an integrative characteristic of a teacher’s personality encompassing knowledge of the history, culture, and traditions of the Ukrainian people; a value-based attitude towards national cultural heritage; the ability to incorporate national-cultural content into professional practice; and an awareness of one’s own national and cultural identity. The cognitive, axiological, activity-based, and identification components of this competence are characterized. The significance of the scholarly and pedagogical ideas of V. Sukhomlynskyi, I. Ziaziun, V. Kremen, and H. Filipchuk in substantiating the national orientation of teacher education is highlighted. The paper identifies the specific features of cultural studies, ethnopedagogical, linguocultural, competency-based, and comparative approaches to developing the national-cultural competence of future teachers. Emphasis is placed on integrating national cultural values into humanities education, fostering national self-awareness and historical memory, and developing readiness for intercultural communication. It is concluded that the development of national-cultural competence is an important prerequisite for the professional growth of future teachers and the preservation of the cultural identity of Ukrainian society.
