Abstract

The presentation presents the results of a quantitative study of the presence of living nature in Vasyl Sukhomlynsky’s book I Give My Heart to Children (2018 edition). An approach to text analysis based on systematic recording and counting of references to plants and animals, without interpreting their educational function, is proposed. The study identified 889 references to living nature represented by 135 unique names: 478 references to flora (66 names) and 411 references to fauna (69 names). The relationship between a stable “core” of the most frequently mentioned natural images and a “periphery” of rarely used names is revealed. The uneven distribution of references to living nature across the pages of the book and the peaks of their concentration are identified. The results make it possible to consider nature in Sukhomlynsky’s text not only as an object of pedagogical reflection but also as a structural component of the text, characterized by a distinct rhythm and diversity.
