Abstract
The article substantiates the socio-centered approach as a methodological basis for designing the content of chemistry education in grades 8–9, which structures learning material starting from socially significant real-life problems rather than from ready-made subject matter. The core principles of the approach are identified — the social significance of content, its contextualization, the integration of personal-development, career-guidance, and competency components, and alignment with the four groups of learning outcomes of the natural science field defined by the State Standard of Basic Secondary Education. Using the chemistry textbooks for grades 8 and 9 (O. Yaroshenko, T. Korshevniuk) as an example, the article shows that the socio-centered approach enables the simultaneous achievement of students' personal development, career orientation, and the full range of standard-defined learning outcomes.
