Abstract

The article states that the peculiarities of the methodology of teaching law in the 9-th grade of the New Ukrainian School are determined by the need to develop legal thinking in рupils, which is characterized by normativity (assuming that the analysis and assessment of the situation is carried out on the basis of current legislation, and each conclusion is based on established facts and articles of the legislation) and is based on legal logic, which is identified with the ability to understand the cause-and-effect relationships between an action, the consequences that have occurred, and responsibility. It is established that the educational activity of рupils in the process of forming legal concepts contributes to the development of their legal thinking and legal logic. The corresponding conditions are determined: taking into account the peculiarities of the conceptual apparatus of law; the use of the necessary methodological tools. The specifics of the set of concepts of law are described: the educational legal material is saturated with concepts, mainly new ones, which are unevenly distributed across sections/paragraphs; a significant part of the concepts is defined in the legislation, and this determines the methods of their formation, primarily work with extracts from regulatory legal acts; legal concepts are complex, which necessitates the visualization of the relevant educational material using tables, in particular comparative ones, and diagrams. A methodological toolkit for the development of legal thinking in ninth-graders during the formation of legal concepts is proposed, which includes: taking into account continuity and intersubject connections with subjects and courses in grades 5-6 and 7-8 of the civic and historical educational field; work with regulatory legal acts and visualization of the results of such work by compiling tables/diagrams; comparison of concepts and development of comparative tables; legal analysis of situations/case method. It is recommended to apply the specified methods according to specific algorithms of actions/step-by-step instructions. It is generalized that this will allow organizing learning as a research process and ensuring the transition from рupils' intuitive and emotional perception of life situations to their objective assessment through the prism of current legislation, as a prerequisite for the development of legal thinking.
