Abstract

The presentation focuses on the visual history of school physical education in Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century based on photographic documents from the collections of the Pedagogical Museum of Ukraine. It presents 13 photographic documents from the 1940s–1980s depicting various forms of physical education of schoolchildren, including physical education lessons, sports clubs and sections, participation in sports competitions, and the development of schools’ material and technical infrastructure. The photographs represent different regions of Ukraine and make it possible to trace the organization of physical education lessons, teacher–student interaction, the use of sports equipment, and the spatial environment of school physical education. The heuristic potential of photographic documents as sources for studying everyday educational practices and the history of physical education is substantiated. Introducing these photographic materials into scholarly circulation expands the source base of historical and pedagogical research.
