Abstract

The paper examines educational discussion as an effective method of teaching chemistry within the New Ukrainian School reform. The role of discussion in developing key competencies and cross-cutting skills of students in grades 7–9, as defined by the State Standard of Basic Secondary Education, is substantiated. Examples of broad and narrow discussion topics in chemistry are provided.
