Abstract
The relevance of the study is driven by the growing number of stressors in the modern educational environment, particularly environmental, epidemic, and wartime threats, which negatively affect the psychological well-being of educational process participants. Under these conditions, the promotion of mental hygiene practices as a means of supporting mental health and developing self-regulation capacity acquires particular urgency. The purpose of the study was to identify gender characteristics of mental hygiene practices (using mindfulness as an example) among educational process participants in the context of environmental and epidemic threats, and to substantiate directions for gender-sensitive promotion. The methodological framework of the study integrated a gender-oriented and systemic approach alongside the concept of mindfulness. The theoretical basis relied on the author's model of mental hygiene practices, which includes basic practices (physical and mental) and derived practices (communicative, informational, recreational). An empirical study (focusing on mindfulness practices) was conducted using the "Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire" (FFMQ). The study involved 502 respondents currently enrolled in higher education institutions, the majority of whom are undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students. Representatives of both gender groups predominantly showed a medium level of development in mindfulness components (ranging within 60-70%). Statistically significant gender differences were found on the "Observing" and "Acting with Awareness" scales: women demonstrated a higher level of sensory and emotional awareness, whereas men showed a higher level of conscious activity. No significant differences were recorded on other scales. The findings indicate the influence of sociocultural factors on the development of mindfulness components. The practical significance of the study lies in the potential use of its results by psychologists, educators, and institutional administration to develop gender-sensitive mental health support programs, stress prevention initiatives, and the implementation of mindfulness practices into the psychological support system for educational process participants in crisis and emergency situations.
