Abstract
The article analyzes the results of the self-assessment of reading literacy skills of students of pedagogical specialties of the Mykhailo Dragomanov National State University, obtained during an online survey, in particular the skills to critically evaluate information obtained from the text, to find and connect information from the deep layers of the text, to put forward one’s own hypotheses based on what has been read, to apply information extracted from the text in real life situations. The analysis involved the responses of 88 respondents. The survey results are presented in the form of pie charts and graphs that visualize the distribution of responses. The online survey was carried out in the context of a planned scientific study in the field of teaching national minority languages and foreign literature: “Formation of reading literacy in students of 3-4 and 5-6 grades of general secondary education institutions with instruction in national minority languages” (2025 2027). The importance of the formation of reading literacy of future teachers is emphasized, which is an important marker of their readiness for effective self-realization as specialists in the educational field. The scientific discourse on the problem of the formation of reading literacy of students of general secondary and higher education in the context of the International PISA-2018 and PISA 2022 studies is considered. The main problems that arise in the process of forming students’ reading literacy are identified, and directions for its improvement in the context of their professional training are determined. It is concluded that in the learning process, students should be given the opportunity to work with texts that contain diagrams, graphs, tables, infographics, schemes for visualizing information and simplifying its perception. It is important to teach students the interpretation of visual data. At the same time, it is necessary to develop the skills of reading long, complex continuous texts, since they are an integral part of academic and professional activities. The necessity and relevance of further domestic scientific research on the formation of reading literacy among Ukrainian students, which will be based on extensive statistical data, is emphasized.
