Abstract

This article presents the results of a sociological survey of the Ukrainian population concerning citizens’ socio-political orientation and electoral attitudes six months prior to the 2004 presidential election. Based on the survey results, a ranking of potential candidates for the office of President of Ukraine was established, and an analysis of regional patterns in electoral preferences was carried out. Possible scenarios for the development of voters’ electoral sentiments were developed, as well as the level of electoral support they would give to political forces and parties. The sociological survey was conducted by the Ukrainian Institute for Social Research and the Ukrainian Centre for Political Management across all administrative-territorial units of Ukraine from 11 to 16 May 2024. A total of 2,038 respondents aged 18 and over were surveyed in 125 settlements (68 towns and 57 villages). The response rate was 79.9 per cent. The sample is representative in terms of key socio-demographic characteristics. Standard deviations, at a 95 per cent confidence level and with a variable ratio ranging from 0.1:0.9 to 0.5:0.5, were 1.3–2.1 per cent.
