Abstract

The syllabus of the compulsory course "Psychology of Trauma and Traumatic Events" (PP.10) is designed for master's level students in the field of study I "Health Care and Social Security", specialty I10 "Social Work and Counselling", educational and scientific programme "Social Work. Social Rehabilitation". The course comprises 4 ECTS credits (120 hours) and concludes with an examination. The aim of the course is to develop students' systematic knowledge of the psychological nature of trauma, the mechanisms of its emergence and course, along with practical skills in assessment, psychological support and rehabilitation of individuals who have experienced traumatic events, particularly in the context of war and armed conflict. The content covers eight topics: theoretical approaches to psychological trauma, resilience and posttraumatic growth; classification of trauma and the psychophysiological (neurobiological) mechanisms of the stress response; posttraumatic stress disorder and complex PTSD according to DSM-5 and ICD-11; trauma-informed assessment using standardised instruments (PCL-5, IES-R, CAPS-5, DES-II, ACE); childhood trauma, its long-term consequences and transgenerational transmission; evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches (CBT, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Exposure Therapy, DBT, Psychological First Aid); prevention of secondary traumatisation, compassion fatigue and professional burnout among practitioners; and the specifics of war-related and moral injury, together with rehabilitation of veterans, internally displaced persons and children. The syllabus sets out the course structure, topics of lectures and seminars, tasks for independent and individual work, examination questions, teaching and assessment methods, grading criteria and scale, as well as recommended literature and information resources.
