Abstract
The article substantiates the use of Ivan Franko’s literary works as a means of developing mathematical competence in students with special educational needs. It highlights the didactic potential of literary texts in facilitating the acquisition of elementary mathematical concepts through the integration of language and mathematics education. The study identifies the pedagogical conditions for the effective use of Franko’s works in teaching students with intellectual disabilities, including the adaptation of literary texts, the application of game-based and visual teaching methods, and the gradual development of mathematical skills. Examples of the practical implementation of the integrated approach based on the fairy tale The Painted Fox and other works by Ivan Franko are presented. The findings indicate that the use of literary texts promotes the development of mathematical concepts, logical thinking, speech, attention, and learning motivation while improving the accessibility of educational content and supporting the corrective and developmental orientation of the educational process.
