Abstract
The theses consider mediation as a modern educational strategy for the development of students’ foreign language sociocultural competence. The essence of the concept of “mediation” in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is highlighted, and its role in intercultural communication is outlined. The evolution of the foreign language teacher’s role from facilitator to self-mediator and mediator is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the development of students’ mediation skills necessary for effective oral and written communication in a multicultural environment.
