Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive theoretical, methodological, historical-pedagogical, and comparative analysis of historical memory as a sociocultural construct within the system of national-patriotic education of student youth in Ukraine during 2005–2021. The conceptual approaches to understanding historical memory in both foreign and Ukrainian scholarly traditions are explored. The study examines the regulatory framework, including the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” (2014), the Concept of National-Patriotic Education of Children and Youth (2015), the Strategy of National-Patriotic Education (2019), as well as the activities of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. The article addresses the implementation of historical memory concepts in higher education curricula in Ukraine, analyzing specific departments, courses, and programs, the periodization of 2005–2010, 2010–2014, 2014–2021, and compares Ukrainian practices with the European approach to memory studies. Particular attention is given to the integration of historical memory into the educational process of higher education institutions through courses, educational programs, scientific conferences, and international projects. A comparative analysis of Ukrainian practices with European experience (Germany, Poland, Baltic States) is conducted. It is demonstrated that during 2005–2021, historical memory became a strategic factor of spiritual culture and national consolidation, integrated into the higher education system of Ukraine. It is argued that historical memory is a key factor in shaping the national identity of student youth, and its integration into the educational process contributes to strengthening statehood and developing civic engagement.
