Abstract

The article examines the émigré period of Nadiia Svitlychna’s activity through the lens of her pedagogical mission. Using the biographical method, the main directions of her cultural-educational, human rights, and publishing activities in the United States are reconstructed, including her participation in the educational work with Ukrainian youth in Plast, her involvement in the foreign representation of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, her work in the Ukrainian Service of Radio Liberty, and her editing and publication of works by Ukrainian dissidents. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of Svitlychna’s texts of the 1980s, which are interpreted as a form of pedagogical writing and as an extra-institutional educational practice of the Ukrainian diaspora. It is shown that these texts combine an analysis of Soviet cultural and educational policy, reflections on the experience of the Ukrainian dissident movement, and the formation of historical memory and national identity. The study substantiates that Svitlychna’s activity in emigration became an important factor in preserving the intellectual and cultural continuity of the Ukrainian community outside Ukraine.
