Abstract
The article analyzes modern research in social and cognitive psychology on the formation of sustainable prosocial behavior in an ecological context with an orientation towards the environment and preservation of one’s own health. The advantages of the cognitive approach for solving practical problems of developing the individual’s ability to maintain health and quality of life under the pressure of external destructive factors are determined due to the plasticity of cognitive functions, mental productivity and agility in decision-making, cognitive stability and consistency of one’s own cognitions in situations of affective load. It is established that modern psychological research mostly presents a dichotomous attitude of a person to events in the context of ecology and biological safety, which ranges from biased optimism and awe to fear and helplessness. A model for studying cognitive resilience as a component of readiness to counter environmental and epidemic threats to human health has been constructed, which includes: general life competence in mastering the stress of everyday life – a sense of coherence, adaptability to external changes and the social environment, improvement of the socio-normative functioning of the individual, which is manifested in worldview plasticity, worldview principledness regarding basic beliefs, as well as a tendency to manifest worldview idealism and a low rate of negative and dysfunctional cognitions regarding traumatic events. It is assumed that it is the coherent unbiased perception of reality, the plasticity and orderliness of personal beliefs about oneself and the world, the dynamism of the processes of reformatting worldview ideas and principles that can contribute to cognitive flexibility, agility and stability in making vital decisions, a tendency to prosocial actions for the benefit of nature and others, and enhance intellectual motivation in emotionally charged situations.
