Abstract
Makkaveyskyi Mykola Korniliyovych from 1891 - Master of Theology, Associate Professor of the Department of Pastoral Theology and Pedagogy, also gave lectures on English. At the same time, he taught history and pedagogy in the Fundukleiv (1900-05, 1907-08) and Kyiv-Podilsky (1901 - 05, 1906-08) gymnasiums. From December 1902 - full-time ordinary professor, from April 1912 - member of the board of the Kyiv Theological Academy (KDA). From December 1914 - Honored Extraordinary Professor. During 1904-1909 he performed the duties of the rector of the KDA. Studied the problems of church archaeology, pedagogy and the history of pedagogy; published in "Trudy Kyiv Spiritual Academy", "Chernihiv Eparchy News", "Church News", etc. In education, he put forward the spiritual life, which was the "basic principle of personality", and religion, in his views, served as the basis for education as a national identity. He was an active participant in the cultural life of Kyiv, gathered around him many Kyiv post-symbolists, was engaged in publishing; worked as an editor of the magazine "Hermes" (1910-1913). Author of a collection of sonnets and poems "Stylos Alexandria" (1918), translated foreign poems: R.-M. Rilke's poetic cycle "Life of Mary" (1914), poems by Stephan Mallarmé, Jean Moreas. Works: "Religion and Nationality as the Foundations of Education" (1895, reprinted 1905), "On the Pedagogical Views of K. Ushinsky" (1896), "Pedagogy of the Ancient Fathers and Teachers of the Church (1897), etc.
