Abstract
A milestone in P. Kulish's educational work was the creation and organization of the publication of the Ukrainian alphabet for primary education "Gramatka" (1857). This was the first textbook in Ukrainian for a public school, which had educational and cognitive content. In 1860, the figure published the almanac "Khata", and from 1861 he took a direct part in organizing the publication of the magazine "Osnova" (St. Petersburg). In the early 60s, he led an active struggle for the transformation of the Ukrainian language into the official one not only in school, but also in state affairs. To prove the possibility of its use in scientific works, he published "History of Ukraine from ancient times" in "Osnova", and also translated from Russian "Regulations on Peasants". During 1860-1862 organized the publication and distribution of a series of cheap books for popular reading in the native language - "Butterflies", which taught the native language. From 1864 to 1867 - worked as a government official in Warsaw, where he studied Polish archives on the history of Ukraine and actively published articles in Galician publications. Main works: "To the Native People" (1847, reprinted in 1882), "Gramatka" (1857, reprinted in 1861), "A Word to the Writers" (1857), "What manuals are more convenient to use for the primary education of peasant children?" (1862), "Cultivating children with the help of a school" (1869), "Invitation letter to the Ukrainian intelligentsia" (1882), "Two languages, book and folk" (1914), "Ukraine" (1923), etc.
