Abstract
The problem of the influence of media products and media figures (media personalities) has long been raised in the psychology of mass communication. Parasociality is one of the key phenomena of such influence. It was first discussed by Donald Horton and Richard Wohl in 1956. They described the situation when people watching TV or listening to the radio have the illusion that they are communicating with a media person in person (face-to-face).
