Abstract
On the night of May 7, 2022, Russia destroyed the Hryhorii Skovoroda National Museum with a missile strike. This goes to prove the genocide of Ukrainians and Ukrainian culture since the destruction of the national memory and Ukrainian identity is one of the main priorities of the national Russian-Ukrainian war. Therefore the article focuses on the fact that modern realities force teachers and educators to return to the cultural and historical heritage, values and ideals that our national spiritual leaders lived by, including «exemplary son of Ukraine, Ukrainian land, and Ukrainian culture» (according to M. Arseniev) Hryhorii Skovoroda. The spiritual actualities of the thinker are characterized by sensual irrationality, spiritual incomprehensibility, wisdom, refined morality, humanity, human centrism, truthfulness, morality, etc. Learning the eternal truths, the great Ukrainian educator and philosopher outlined for the people the vague prospect of ethical tasks of spiritual, cultural, political, social, and state-creating life. He laid the cornerstone in a peculiar national philosophy of soul education, freeing himself from the shackles of all compulsion, vanity, getting rid of slavery, exalting the human freedom, affirming the vital joy of a high mind and heart. It was the happy state of man that gave rise to Skovoroda’s ideals, touching the most sensitive strings of the meanings of being, identifying with the most important goal – to raise and strengthen his spirit, thought and heart. Skovoroda’s philosophy guided a person to master eternal and noble goals, that is to nourish the spirit, feelings, heart and thoughts. This leading thought of the national awakener contains the essence of modern civilizational existence, echoing the ideological ideas of Western and Eastern intellectual thought, and the outstanding values of Christian teaching above all. Today Ukraine is fighting not only for the freedom and sovereignty of its state but for land and mental determination, sea and fate. The front also runs through Skovoroda’s values, which formed the cultural, psychomental image of the Ukrainian person.
