Abstract

The author's methodology, which combines the theory of post-traumatic growth (the experience of clients’ positive changes as a result of collision with complicated life crises or traumatic events) and the phenomenon of parasocial relationships that allows person to identify himself with a protagonist while watching a media product facilitating the actualization of internal problems and entering the therapeutic process is described in the article. The author reveals the main directions of positive changes that may occur as a result of crises and the peculiarities of the client’s “identification” with a media personality, which becomes the main mechanism of a new direction in psychological rehabilitation –mediatherapy. The technique itself consists of three stages: the first stage is heating, aimed at mild actualizing of the client’s problem situation; the second stage is rethinking of traumatic experience designed to help to understand the opportunities that the situation gave the client; the third one is defining life goals, which makes possible to focus on them and develop specific actions to achieve them.
