Abstract

Relevance. The problem of forced displacement is relevant today. Since the beginning of the war in 2014, the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine has been about 1.5 million, and now, due to the full-scale invasion, amount of them is constantly increasing. The psychological traumatization of IDPs and the forced nature of resettlement has drawn the researchers` and psychologists` attention to the problems of psychological assistance providing to IDPs and their adaptation to life in a new place. Since resettlement and further building of life of IDPs are directed to the future, it is advisable to consider the characteristics of this future and some strategies used by IDPs for its’ constructing. The article aims to identify the characteristics of IDPs' future and strategies they use to construct it. The research methodology is based on a comparative analysis of written narratives about the future of IDPs and local residents. The results of the study of IDPs' narratives revealed the emotional valence of their attitude to the future, the complexity of vision of the future and the level of attainability of the future described in the authors' stories. The strategies of personal future construction, which IDPs resort to and the specifics of their usage are determined. Conclusions and prospects for further research. It was found that the IDPs` stories about the future have a greater negative emotional valence compared to the stories of persons who have no experience of forced resettlement. IDPs` vision of future is relatively less complex, they often describe an abstract future in their stories. The difference in the future construction strategies` usage by internally displaced persons and local residents lies in the greater prevalence of future avoidance strategies in IDP narratives. Also, for IDPs, a variant of social construction of the future with an emphasis on caring for significant others is more characteristic.
