Abstract

The role of reflexivity in comprehensive school principals’ work. The article deals with the content and role of reflection of comprehensive school principals. The author discusses the results of empirical research related to the levels of comprehensive school principals' reflexivity and its macro-, meso- and micro-level organizational and psychological factors. It was found that the majority of the sample had low and medium reflexivity with only every third respondent having high reflexivity. The high-reflexivity comprehensive school principals were characterized by high ambiguity tolerance, flexible decision-making, focus on innovations, use of non-standard work forms, freedom from negative professional and personal stereotypes, deep self-understanding and understanding of colleagues. The macro-level factor included the region where the comprehensive school was located, the meso-level factor included the type of the comprehensive school, and the micro-level factors included the comprehensive school principals' work experience, gender and age. It was found that organizational and psychological factors influenced the comprehensive school principals' reflexivity. The author emphasizes the necessity of development of comprehensive school principals' reflexivity, which can be effectively done during their university training (higher education) and postgraduate training (advanced training) by means of special training courses.
