Abstract

The article presents validation arguments for the advantage of the constructive-discourse approach to studying transformation of communication practices as a factor of national and citizenship self-identification, namely, recognition of the possibility as such to construct national identity in the process of communication; ideas about the key role of nucleus constructs in the choice of ways to interact; ideas about a constructivist dialogue as a means of activating reflection and increasing susceptibility for the choice of concepts and meanings in the process of communication; understanding discourse as a communication phenomenon and forms of communication practices. According to the applied methodology, communication practices are treated as means of the purpose-rationalized reflection of the communication relations, establishment of mutual understanding and development of effective models of behavior, which helps an individual to construct new meanings, to determine and substantiate his/her belonging to a certain socio-cultural community, thus to identify him- or herself with it. Indicators of national self-identification have been determined. National self-identification is defined as one’s awareness of belonging to a political nation, a socio-cultural community, which has experience in statehood, traditions, myths and symbols, shared values and expectations of the future. Citizenship self-identification is defined as a process of individual self-categorization and awareness raising regarding his\her belonging to a community capable of defending its interests by means of responsible and constructive social interaction. Key words: communication practices, citizenship and national self-identification, constructive- discourse approach, transformations.
