Abstract

Informatization and globalization of the contemporary social processes, which cause changes in the area of intersection and interaction of the personal and the social in man are particularly important in the period of adolescence, which is especially sensitive to social changes and the specific historical circumstances of the development of society. The author presents the results of empirical operationalization and validation of the concept of psychosocial development. The paper reveals the theoretical and methodological approaches to study the phenomenon of the concept of psychosocial development; definition of its psychological content, patterns, structure and dynamics in the period of adolescent age. The concept represents the author’s vision of the concept of psychosocial development. The work presents the philosophical and psychological substantiation of the essence of psychosocial problems and categories of psychosocial development at all levels of analysis: the level of philosophical methodology, the level of general scientific principles and forms of research, the level of concrete scientific methodology, the level of psychological methods and techniques of research. Psychosocial development is viewed as the concept of the integrative type; its operationalization is based on the rational-empirical strategy of data collection. The author implements the requirement of unity of methodology, theory and experiment. Adolescence is considered as a category, the phenomenon and the problem of developmental psychology in various aspects of the analysis (phenomenological, ontological, functional, genetic). The new understanding of the nature of adolescence (12 to 20 years) as a cultural and historical phenomenon is related to overcoming of limitations of traditional socio-historical paradigm. In new social and cultural conditions the modern type of adolescence is the age group, which (as humanity in general) develops historically, universalizes ancestral ability of mankind, promotes the development of human society in the cultural space of time and history. Development of the modern teenager is a process of creative self-determination in the culture: on the one hand -it’s a creative assimilation (assignment), on the other -it’s the creation and enhancement of the creative potential of the genus, the actualization of not only realized, but also undetected, latent potential of the creative activity of mankind. Thus, adolescence is a carrier of cultural -creative function and source of tribal cultural evolution. The author’s idea about new characteristics of modern adolescence is confirmed in the research method of focus groups (focus groups of teachers). Postnonclassical paradigm and pluralistic methodology of knowledge determine the disciplinary blurring and increase of the role of the analysis of socio-cultural context in the study of psychological phenomena. Conceptualization of psychosocial development in the period of adolescence (mechanisms, patterns, age and individual tasks) are interpreted in the context of solving functional dichotomies of psychosocial development as a search for individual and distinctive balance of individual and social, internal and external, determination and selfdetermination. The author presents the results of empirical operationalization and validation of the concept of psychosocial development. There is described methodological support, organization, tools and phases of the empirical research of psychosocial development in the period of 12 – 20 years, are presented the results of development and standardization of the author’s questionnaire “Psychosocial Development of Adolescents” (PDA). The empirical way of data collection and their further generalization allowed to determine patterns of psychosocial development in conditions of socialization, to describe the characteristics of the psychosocial development of modern Ukrainian adolescents and young people, their potential and individual problems of growing up. The problems in resolving the dichotomies of psychosocial development lead to manifestations of crisis: a crisis of identity, crisis of the subject. There are presented the results of researching the peculiarities of normative experiences of the crisis, are described predictors of normative crisis of psychosocial development, its individual, personal-biographical and age factors. Qualitative variability of the content of psychosocial development in the period of adolescence (secondary school students) and youth (students) ages are presented by types (patterns) psychosocial development (harmonious, internal, dependent, frustrated), which are interpreted as models of development (constructive, non-constructive, destructive). Unproductive models of psychosocial development provide a definition of social and psychological conditions of promote psychosocial development in adolescence. Therefore, in the last chapter are discussed the key aspects of optimal psycho-pedagogical support of the individual in the period of growing up that should promote adequate development of adolescents and youth as subjects of social life.
