Abstract

The author argues that the basis of social capital is constituted by the interaction of different social groups, which should be interpreted as a process of formation of their attitudes to each other. Such attitudes are prior to interaction and can have an impact on the group communication. Transformation of social capital as a form of the community adaptation to conditions and consequences of a military conflict as well as restructuring of social links both of an individual and a community as a whole, which enables them to preserve and renew their status, have been under consideration. It has been proved that losing one’s social status and breaking social links lead to the state of frustration, which, in the long run, may cause disadaptation if no help is provided. It is emphasized that social environment can have either a positive influence on adaptation of the military conflict victims or, on the contrary, aggravate disadaptation. The Investigation of the relationships between representatives of different social groups may facilitate the solution of the problem of effective adaptation of the community to the conditions and consequences of a military conflict.
