Abstract

The modern era is characterized by processes of formation of new paradigms in the philosophy and theory of education. They are interconnected and complicated by the diversity and contradiction of ascending principles and conclusions. However, their commonality - to emphasize the practical implementation of the latest ideas and concepts in the practice of education. In this context, the countries of Southern Europe (Greece, Italy, Spain) are of particular interest, where the collision between neo-liberalism and national educational cultures was perhaps more powerful than in other European countries. The content analysis of literary sources testified, that modern philosophical and pedagogical conceptions of supporters of neo-liberalism, ideas of antipedagogy and “philosophy of cancellation», the legacy of J. Dewey and apologists of critical pedagogy have markedly influenced on the development of continuous teacher education in the countries of Southern Europe at the end of the XX - the beginning of the XXI centuries. They made possible to reveal the dialectics of the system of teacher education, helping to identify and solve the contradictions in its formation and progress, to design the correlation of quantitative and qualitative changes, to explore the transition to higher stages of evolutionary development with the preservation of all the positive ones that were before.
