Abstract
The article highlights the epistemological formation of lifelong learning, characterized by its periodization. UNESCO and OECD approaches to lifelong learning are revealed. Attention is paid to the scientific interpretation of the concept of "lifelong learning". Contextual features are revealed, according to which education covers public and private spheres of human interests. The understanding of "lifelong learning" and "lifelong learning" is differ- entiated. The understanding of formal, non-formal and informal education is revealed. Attention is paid to distance education technologies: analog, one-way and two-way network. Conservative and perspective directions of pro- fessional education are covered.
