Abstract

The author reveals the character of transformations at the ISCED 3 which is defined as second/final stage of secondary education; stresses the increase of the ISCED 3 importance in the life of EU communities; underlines changes of education aims at this level as well as a rapprochement of academic education and VET in order to meet the demands of the European countries. Two key approaches to ISCED 3 structuring in EU countries are characterized, i.e. organization of the profiled education within the same structure (the differentiation is organized by means of teaching various courses, modules of the academic and vocational content); making separate institutional provision for academic/general and vocational education aimed at teaching separate profiles of the general or vocational content. The author describes the EU countries approaches to curriculum modeling which forms the unified framework containing the following components: general subjects/educational areas which are obligatory for all students; the profiled subjects; elective subjects (general or profiled ones) aimed at deepening students’ knowledge; inter-subjects areas, topics, courses for key competences development; practical life subjects/courses.
