Abstract
The article attempts to systematize the administrative and pedagogical activity of Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov during his management of the Kiev educational district and to determine the significance of the heritage of the outstanding scholar in the development of education and pedagogical thought in Ukraine in the second half of the XIX century.
