Abstract
Modern scientists are paying special attention to the need of updating the traditional content, forms and methods of career counseling that would encourage the student to self-knowledge, self-esteem and professional self-perfection. Therefore, the system of school vocational guidance should not only focus on the student’s professional self, but also perform tasks related to the creation of an educational environment aimed at fostering students’ readiness to overcome difficulties, perform lifelong learning and be active in their own professional development. The need for professional self-determination activates the consciousness of a teenager and determines its semantic characteristics. Stimulating consciousness of senior students should be professionally oriented. The formation of selfdemanding mechanisms in this context is one of the key problems in the system of modern school career guidance.
